The €13.5 million Barne Estate in County Tipperary includes a manor house built in the 17th century
An award-winning, 751-acre expanse of Ireland, complete with rolling fields of farmland, a tennis court and a historic manor house has come to the market—for the first time in hundreds of years—for €13.5 million (US$14.8 million).
The Emerald Isle property, known as the Barne Estate, is near Clonmel, County Tipperary, roughly an hour drive from the cities of both Cork and Limerick, and about twice that to Dublin.
It “offers some of the most fertile and versatile farmland in Ireland,” according to Savills, which brought the property to the market, in partnership with REA Stokes & Quirke of Clonmel, this week.
“Its consistent high yields and exceptional quality have earned the farm several prestigious accolades, including the ‘Grain Supplier of the Year’ award,” the real estate firm added.
At the center of it all is one of Ireland’s historic country houses, according to the listing.
The chateau-style house, which dates to the 17th century, is surrounded by formal gardens and parkland, including a trout lake and a nature reserve.
Spanning almost 17,000 square feet, the four-story house is loaded with period features. Plus there’s an entrance hall, a drawing room, a morning room, a library, a wine cellar, a game room and 12 bedrooms.
“The Barne Estate has been held in the same family since the 17th century, making it a rare gem on the Irish real estate market,” said James Butler, head of residential and country agency at Savills.
The family’s legacy at the estate started with Richard Moore, who settled in Clonmel around 1654 and went on to be High Sheriff in Waterford and later, in Tipperary. The Moore family has already fielded interest from investors, farmers and farming companies, Butler said.
